Full penetration butt–weld on stainless steel sanitary piping
The purpose of this project is to join two pieces of stainless steel tubing with a Butt-Weld. Butt welds can be performed on various thicknesses of metals although the process with traditional methods becomes more complex as the joint thickness increases.
Laser welding provides a fast and economical solution to high volume butt- welding applications, especially with thicker material.
The photograph shows a clean weld inside and outside of the tube. The tube is 0.5” diameter Stainless Steel. The butt weld took two seconds.
The etched cross section shows the depth of the weld and that there are no voids present.
